My IPod won't work outdoors; what do I do?

Earlier today when I was at Werner Park here in Omaha a short time before going in for a baseball game, I attempted turning on my IPod, but when I did so, it wouldn't respond. However, when I got it back home and tried turning it back on, it worked with no problem at all. Does anyone know what the problem might be and how I can make it work outdoors in the future?
 
What were you doing with it? If you were using a streaming service, you need wifi. IF you were listening to songs you'd downloaded, it should work.
