I have 1985 Jeep Cj-7 6 in line 4x4 stickshift 4 gears. It runs like a wild beast but only in city driving. When I take it on the Highway and drive about ten min going 65 its starts heating up and running hot but as soon as i get off the highway it starts cooling down. Does anyone know why this is happening man i want to fix i love that Jeep more then my left hand!!!! Please Help Yahoo'rs

Sounds like you have a partially clogged radiator. If you feel a vibration between 25 and 45 mph you could have a bad fan clutch

Does it have enough coolant in it? Check to make sure all the hoses are attached where they should be. Might have a bad thermostat.

I see the thermostat is mentioned. Something to check that has happened to me is the lower radiator hose collapsed. At lower RPM`S it will let fluid through and at higher RPM`S it would not. The wire in it corroded through. Something to check. Best of luck.

The water pump is in its last legs. Get it changed.
The thermostat needs change. When was it the last time you did that?
Coolant needs to be replinished. Before that, the rad needs back flushed.
Here is what you do: Once you diagnose that water pump is the problem, and needs replacement all other items on the list above gets done at the same time.

So, what's in YOUR wallet? It may set you back by about $400 to $500
