my memory card is not read or even picked up by my cell phone. what is the problem

with the card? i have a micro sd card in my pantech matrix cell phone. i took my memory card out and put in my friends to copy some files to my cell phone memory. i ended up not taking any files and put my card back in. the phone did not read it. i kept trying to blow in it and trying to get it read but it did not read. what is the problem?
