My psychiatrist told me to be open to my friends but they just think I'm whining?

I have depression and anxiety and tend to bottle everything up. I have major trust issues as well, so it was a big step when I decided to tell someone what was going on in my life. He then went on to talk about me to one of his other friends about how "whiny" I am.

How do I face this contradicting obstacle... should I be open? I've refrained back to keeping it all inside because I feel it's the better option :(

The problem isn't with you, but with your friend. Don't let his stupidity set you back.

Why not find a chat site so you can talk to others who have similar difficulties with anxiety. Also, you know that some friends come for a while and then we have to leave them because it isn't working. No harm done. Just wasn't a good fit. Be patient with yourself.

Yeah my first thought is "quack". my motto is to speak only positive things. Trust me it works. If you need to get the things out that are bothering you just start an annonymous blog. Not many people will look but maybe someone will. I have gad so i am speaking from experience. You dont want to be known as a complainer. People will avoid you.
