My puppy is whining nonstop, can't sleep - help!?

I just got my puppy yesterday, she is 8 weeks old. We live in an apartment and my landlord has ok'd a small dog, however I have a young child (3 years old) too and at night when I put my puppy in the kennel she whines and whines and barks to no end... so much so she kept my son up all last night, and tonight it's even worse. I don't want her to keep him up or the neighbours for that matter! I ended up just taking her out of her kennel and bringing her into my room, but I don't want her to get used to this habit especially since she's still peeing all over the place. I really need help, please!!!
Thanks everyone...I've tried most of the suggestions, ie. wrapping a towel around a hot water bottle, putting a small clock in her kennel, putting a soft stuffed toy in there...so far no luck! I guess I will have to wait it out, I just hope my neighbours are as patient!

Having raised MANY dogs, I have a suggestion. Move the crate to your room. She is just a baby and misses her litter mates. Give her a stuffed animal ( a good fuzzy one) to sleep with and a small towel with your scent on it wrapped around a bottle of warm water. If that fails buy a cheap clock that ticks. It has a calming effect. My pup Ruger cried all night so I brought him in the bedroom. It helped alot. But I am lucky, I live wayyyy out in the country and decided to get another pup to keep him company. Maybe someone else will have a better idea but this has worked for me. Good luck!!

take the kennel into your room? i dont like doing this but it will help the next couple nights, i heard of putting a wind up alarm clock under a blanket and the ticking noise helps sooth them... it will get better first couple nights is always the worst.... put the kennel in your room where it knows you are there then gradualy move the kennel where you want it, once its done whining.

You can't take the dog out of the kennel like that, especially if you want to train it to stay in the kennel. You just have to suffer through the whining, it will eventually stop when the dog knows it is no use to whine. It just takes a while. You will spoil the puppy by giving into the whining like that.

Put a clock and a Hot water bottle(wrapped in a cloth) in with her to keep her company, She is lonely and afraid after being with her brothers and sisters.It will pass.

If you put a nice plush teddy bear or any stuffed animal in the pen with her she won't feel so left alone and she may stop whining. Also, try bring the pen or kennel carrier into your bedroom along with the stuffed animal.

I'm afraid the only way to get her to stop is to ignore her. If she learns that if she whines long enough you'll bring her inside, she'll never stop. Waiting until you get really sick of it is actually worse than responding right away, as she'll come to expect that you will eventually come even if she has to whine for a very long time for you to do it.

Dogs are pack animals, and it's not unusual for them to get upset when left alone, especially at night and especially when they're young. She's probably never been on her own for so long before. If you decide to keep her inside, make sure you take her out to pee before bed and first thing in the morning. As she gets older she will become better at controlling her bladder and learn to wait to go to the toilet at the appropriate time, since she knows she'll get taken outside if she waits. If you have a non-carpeted area she can access, put down some newspaper for her to pee on. If you catch her peeing elsewhere, take her straight to the paper so she gets the association.

dont worry its not gonna last forever the dog is in a kennel and its in an unfamiliar place that its trying to adjust to

When I kennel trained my last puppy, I gave her a stuffed teddy, a couple chew toys and a rawhide bone in her kennel. I even put the kennel on the bed with me so she could see me and my adult dog slept beside the kennel. If she started whining I'd say "Shhh go to sleep" and she'd stop. She stopped whining and started sleeping in her kennel on the floor with-in a week and she now sleeps all night in her kennel in a different room.
Another thing is if you take the puppy outside for a walk and to go potty right before you put her to bed she should sleep better. Keep her up with you and put her in the kennel right before you go to bed, so she can't take a nap and wake up right as your going to bed.
