I don't know who wouldn't go crazy listening to her all the time. I am very patient and laid-back (we've been living together for almost 4 months now). She's my friend, but I guess I didn't realize how much she complains about everything.

She's constantly whining... about the weather, her love life, her job, her weight, about everything. Without having to whine myself (to give her a taste of her own medicine) what other things can I do to give her the hint that no one likes a whiner.

Make up someone from work or a class (idk if you are in school or not) and say how much they whine about everything, using things that your roommate says, like weight, boyfriend, job, etc. Go on and on about how much she bothers you, and hopefully your roommate will get the point. Or maybe suggest you both go to a positive thinking seminar

whine back at her..or just tell her to shut up..she'll get the hint

Giving a taste of her own medicine is a bad idea.

I'd just tell her straightforwardly but politely. Say something like, 'dear Moronia (or whatever her name is), I am getting very tired of you always whining. Will you please cut it out with me? It is making me living with you unbearable. Thank you very much.'

Whenever you're busy doing something, or thinking about something, once she starts, you tell her sweetly but firmly, 'excuse me, I need to do this work, and you're distracting me.'

Sweet but firm is the way.

It isn't always a good idea for friends to room together. It's the best way to ruin a friendship. But to answer the question, how about every time she starts to whine, you change the subject. Or even better, just be honest and tell her that you love he and wouldn't hurt her feelings for anything but that her whining is annoying. If you choose to do that, be prepared for her to get defensive so just be gentle. My guess is that it won't change things anyway if that's her personality. You might be better to learn how to turn her off.

Tell her to shut up. I can't stand whining either. Find a new roommate because if you continue like this, you won't be friends much longer.

Just tell her to shut up she'll get the hint. She sounds like an ass!
