My sony ericsson is fudging up - Is this something to do with New Years?

My phone won't send texts? I am trying to text my friend to say Happy New Year & Happy Birthday but it keeps saying 'Sending Failed. Retry?'. Its never done this before and it only started not working half an hour ago. Has this got something to do with the network on New Years? Or is my phone just generally breaking?

its new year...to many people are texting and ringing so you cannot get your messages through it should clear up soon xx

I think so I know somebody with a Sony Ericsson who sent me 11 texts saying happy new year because every time they tried it said sending failed but they were all coming through.
