my stepdaughter has severe autism?

my stepdaughter is 5 years old and has been diagnosed with autism. she still uses the bathroom on herself, she cant say anything, she wont look at you when you try to talk to her, and also she only eats 2 different kinds of food chicken and french fries, she only stays with me and her dad every other weekend. so i dont know if she is that bad at home, but i was wondering are most cases of autism this bad and does it ever get any better, also what are some things that we can do to help her.
