My truck was running fine and now it won't start, what could be the problem?

I have a 87' Chevy C10 truck with a 96' Chevy Blazer Vortec engine. I had half a 1/4 tank of gas and I started my truck up to warm the engine up. It ran perfect, I had to take the trash up to the road cuz, it was trash night. I had my little boy with me so, I turned the truck off and he helped me. I got back in the truck and now the battery acts like it is dead. It won't make a crank sound and the lights work, the heater works and so on. So, I thought I was too low on gas and since I was on a slight upwards hill, I though the gas shifted to one side and it wasn't getting the fuel in the engine like it should. I walked back home and came back with a gas can and filled it up. It still won't start and it's not the starter, I know this for sure.

It acts like it is the battery but, the guages are showing a half full reading that the battery is half charged. This is the first time my truck has gone sour on me.....can anyone help with suggestions?

check and see if there is a fuse that runs to your starter. Check all your fuses while you're at it. Then if they're all good. check and see if the wires are all intact. make sure none of them are grounded improperly. It could also be your starter solenoid. I've never worked on a chevy C10 but usually most cars have pretty much the same system. If when you turn the key it made a slow cranking sound and then slowed down and stopped, it just may be your starter. If it clicks but doesn't turn over, it may be your battery. If Not then check the resistance in your ignition relay. Any more questions just email me.

I'd suggest checking the spark plugs and distributor caps and possibly replacing them along with the battery. This worked when my Civic had the same problem. The battery plugs may be erroted or the spark plugs may have erroted so the right amout of energy is not being applied to start the truck. To replace the plugs and caps may be around $100 and a new battery is usually around $70-80

it looks to me your battery is discharged.

try to jump start your truck or replace your battery; then have a technician look into your alternator. maybe there is some problem in your electrical system that is why your battery is not being rechaged.
