I've also posted this in the maintenance/repairs section. I need as MANY answers as I can get.
Okay, so some background on my car:
(don't know if I can help much or not since I know absolutely nothing about this kind of stuff)
-2001 New Beetle
-4 cylinder engine
-Single overhead cam
-5th letter of VIN # is S (I'm always told that say something about the kind of engine/motor in it?)
-Roughly 130K miles
A couple of weeks ago my car overheated out of state. The battery up & died on us & the flange melted to the engine block, which we have since replaced. We also bought a new thermostat as well considering the heat wasn't putting out before that happened. When we tried to put antifreeze in the car, it leaked out (which it has never done before this all happened) & still won't start.
You can hear it attempt to start, but it won't fully turn over. It does *not* making a clicking sound when you try to start it. I've been told by a friend's step-dad that it might be my motor has went out, but I'm not sure whether or not I should trust his opinion since he was drinking while looking at my car. >.> (Brilliant, I know) Also, that doesn't tell me why the antifreeze is leaking out either. So, as you can tell I have quite a few questions & I really don't know where to begin.
I *do* know that I need an oil change, which we plan to take care of as soon as we figure out if my car is salvageable, I just don't want to waste the time or money taking it to a shop right away if it's not worth it.
So, do you think it's possible that my motor has went out even though my car still tries to turn over, or could it be something as simple as the alternator (which someone else suggested it might be)?
What could be causing my antifreeze to leak out when I've never had this problem before?
