Need info about item that picks up other ppl internet?

My ex had this item that plugs into your desktop computer, and you put it near the window and it'll find other peoples internet and you can hop on their internet. Can anyone please tell me the name, or anything about it? Thank you in advance
what's the device called?

Such a device could only access unsecured networks - owned by people who haven't bothered putting a password on their network
