Right, after being stuck in a bad situation involving an ignorant, arrogant neighbor and his absolutely untrained dog who barks all night long until 8am and has NEVER been outside his 2 x 5m yard which is located 2m from my house windows, this is what I can share from my experience:
1st and MOST IMPORTANT: do not bring up the problem with the dog, do not confront your neighbor or even discuss the subject with them. If it's an adult dog (1 year old or older) and has no good habits it means his owner is a piece of sh*t who has no manners himself and lacks any consideration for fellow human beings. There may be exceptions to this but relying on it means risking your only chance at solving the problem, namely taking action to silence the poor being forever. Shouting at the dog or the owner, even mentioning you have a problem with barking etc. to anyone in the neighborhood will do you NO GOOD. Keep it to yourself and do what you gotta do.
I made the stupid mistake of first being decisive and confronting the neighbor about it, then I tried to plead with him explaining the problem in the most calm and polite manner possible. Best reaction I could ever get out of him was a shrug.
2) Xylitol doesn't work, I tried 3 times with always increasing doses, on 3 consecutive days- 20, 30 and 40 grams but absolutely nothing happened - talking about a 20pound dog. I let the xylitol dissolve in water for and then soaked bread with it, I saw the ugly bastard eat the bread as soon as I threw it to him but nothing happened :-(
3) Ibuprofen doesn't work. I tried giving him 1200mg at once and 1800mg the next time, no effect (apparently this was 600 times the LD for dogs...stupid vets and paranoid pet owners yapping about how dangerous it is, bull****- it does nothing)
I don't want to get any poisons yer because they're difficult to get, dangerous and difficult to store and dispose of and dangerous to use also. This dog like I said barks at all times during the night, often during the day too for 20-30 minutes at a time, he only stops for a few seconds to catch his breath then he starts barking again....Neighbor's windows/rooms are on the other side of his house so he barely can hear it but to me it feels like the dog is literally inside my room especially now in the summer when I have to keep my windows open because of the hot weather.
Which brings me to the next point- open windows...the dog craps all over the yard (2m from my house walls and windows) the owner only cleans once a week at best. The smell of dog sh*t is unbearable. He NEVER, ever takes the dog out. I once friendly advised him to take him out for a walk once in a while. He said it gets enough excercise in the yard...what an absolute idiot. It also pees all over his house front door

Honestly, I would feel sorry for the poor animal if I hadn't cursed it so much at night when it wakes me up 3-4 times in an hour...
Anyway, I'm out of ideas. I don't have a gun to shoot it, not that this would be my first choice. Antifreeze I don't know, some people say it works, other say it doesn't, yet others say "get the blue one", then others say "no, no, get the green one". So far my attempts to get rid of my nemesis have remained unnoticed and I'd very much like it to stay that way...but I need a sure-fire way to solve my problem because if I don't do something very soon, I might end up either in a mental hospital, or on the street when I lose my job due to chronic under-performance (thanks to bad/not enough sleep) or in jail for manslaughter
