Network Attached Storage and Bittorrent?

Can you run applications from a network attached storage (NAS) device? I have seen NAS devices that advertise being able to run bittorrent applications such as Vuze without the use of a computer. I am looking for suggestions or tips in buying a NAS device. I have a Maxtor 120GB 7200 rpm IDE hard drive I plan on using.
