Our foster boy got neutered today, and while he's not acting like he's in pain, he is licking at his sutures. We're stopping him and he's doing it less, but I was wondering if there was something I could do to ease the irritation. Would an icepack for a few minutes help? (Wrapped, of course - same way you would for a human.) I also have some topical analgesic spray that we used for our other dog when her feet itched (allergies). I don't want to use that because the site is still an open wound, even though it's sutured and it's not leaking anything.

Would an icepack work, or would it just make it worse in the long run? He's a BIG Lab and we don't have an e-collar for him.
