New Micro SD card in Samsung R500. Says small pictures exceed file space to

put on card. I'm at my wits end.? I have a Samsung R500 phone and I bought a brand-new Micro SD card rated at 4GB to move my pictures from the phone onto. When I do this, each picture I try to move keeps saying size exceeds file space. I do not understand what the deal is with this thing, and I've been messing with it for some time. I am so fed up that I'm ready to just throw the stupid thing across the room or smash it with a hammer. Can someone please help me before I do this with that phone?
