New T-Mobile phone help?

I have T-Mobile, and I want a new phone without paying $5242374623786 for a new one. Is it possible just to buy a pre-paid T-Mobile phone from Walmart or somewhere, then just put my SIM card from my old phone, into the new pre-paid phone I just bought?
