New York Marathon Moments: Our 10 Favorite Finishers, From Celebrities to Bride & Gro
Marathons rarely get the fanfare of football or soccer, but the ING New York City Marathon is an exception to the rule: Along with thousands of other New Yorkers, I've watched the race every year since I moved to the Big Apple, whether or not I know someone who's running (although almost every year, I do). Getting up early to cheer for a bunch of strangers in the biting November cold may seem almost as insane as actually running the 26.2 miles, but seeing participants—of every kind—is one of the most amazing things I get to do every year. This year, I watched from a block near mile seven Brooklyn, and caught a glimpse of every wave of the race: The wheelchair and arm-cycle divisions, the elite men and women; and maybe most of all, the hordes of fast, medium, and slow men and women, studded with celebrities and athletes from all over the world.
