Hi I need some advice. I am getting a female Havanese (at 15 weeks) in one week after my daughter,8 yrs, begged for a puppy for a year. I wanted to get one two weeks before school started to get both puppy and my daughter settled with the new addition. Alot of her friends have puppies, small ones and she felt left out. She is a great kid who is very responsible (has a fish and cat) and excellent in school every single year. So she is not only deserving but I have no worries on her doing her part with being responsible with the new membr of the family, however I never owned a puppy. I've been around dogs being a child but never raised. Can I take puppy out carrier when she gets off plane to greet her or is that too risky in a busy airport? Is it true collars arent safe for small breeds and you have use harness? Would it be too soon to take her to the park, before getting her into the housetraining routine? I've heard that you shouldnt take them out of their training routine until they have done it for a few weeks so taking to park as oppose to continuing crate training could mess them up - true?. How much freedom can a puppy have in a house? Some people say even when in the house have a routine where they have play time and then put them back in crate even if you are in the house? I had always thought crate would be mainly for when no one is home so they dont ruin your things or use bathroom all over the place. If anyone has a Havanese please share any and all info, experiences for a newbie or what to do and expect.
Thanks Bob Ive done that, got a book how to train a housetrain a puppy in a week and information on the breed itself, but there are many differnet theories as anything else, one reader suggests one thing and another something different. part of my library internet research is to ask real people who raised puppies, what worked for them - esp if they have a Havanese.

Go to your library and read some books or watch some videos on raising and training dogs.
