Hey everyone, newbie vegan here and I am totally experimenting and I love it. I dont miss meat and I m excited everyday to see what I can make. Anyway my fello vegetarian friends keeps pushing me to try tofu. Now I have heard that it is horrible but dont want to discriminate based off of that. So my goal for this week it to make it. Now what is the best way, how should I do it, and what type should I use, I heard they come in soft, and firm etc. So thanks for the help and if there is anyone herethat would love to email me for anymore tips and stuff please just leave me yours and I will def email you. THANKS EVERYONE!!!

Step One: Buy tofu. It comes in extra firm, firm, and a few other varities. Pick up a package of firm or extra firm. Not the silken variety.

Step Two: Press tofu. http://toomanycombined.blogspot.com/2008/10/how-to-press-tofu-in-five-easy-steps.html

Step Three: Prepare tofu. Here are two very easy recipes: http://allrecipes.com//Recipe/broccoli-tofu-pitas/Detail.aspx & http://vegetarian.about.com/od/breakfastrecipe1/r/TofuScramble.htm

Step Four: Consume tofu.

I love love love tofu! I just became a vegetarian about 5 months ago and I had never had tofu before. Now it is my favorite food! It tastes like however you make it. The texture is a little weird at first but it is very easy to get used to.The first thing that I made with tofu was tofu stir fry. It made me fall in love! When making tofu stir fry you definitely want to get firm or extra firm tofu. This will insure that the tofu will stay in cubes. So you want to drain and press(wrap in paper towels and press all the extra water out of it) the tofu, then cube it. Fry it over medium heat in a skillet with olive oil for 8 minutes. Then add in brown rice and any vegetables that you would like! It's really delicious. If you like a little bite to it you can add some hot sauce, or after you fry the tofu you can marinate it with some taco seasoning water mixture and then finish off the recipe. Tofu is really versatile, healthy, and delicious so I suggest that you give it a chance! you can do almost anything with it so you just have to find what you love!
