Nextel i870.....can I assign pictures?

I bought a nextel i870 on ebay a while ago. It was new or slightly used, I can't even really remember. Anyway, it didn't come with a memory card or sim card. So, I put my sim in it and have been using it since. My question is, I thought that if I bought a memory card, I'd be able to assign pictures to my contacts list. Well, I can't, and I'm wondering why I can't do this. I can take pictures, it just does not give me the option of 'assign to caller id' after taking pictures. Can someone help me?
How do I save a contact to my phone, instead of my sim?

yes i have that phone as well. make sure a contact is saved to your phone not your sim and then you should open your pictures and press save to contact and select the one to which you desire.
