There is a much cheaper deal of an android smartphone on amazon which has equivalent features of google nexus.
It is called "Pantech" and costs $157 at amazon (its regular price is near 400). It has 1.5 Ghz cpu processor (like nexus), 16 GB internal memory (like nexus) and 1 GB RAM (nexus has 2 GB RAM), but 1 GB should be a lot too.
The screensize of Pantech is similar to nexus screensize and it has latest android 4.2 on it.
Pantech like LG and Samsung is a korean manufacturer of smartphones too.

You can get unlocked pantech burst at amazon. Its exclusively for at&t. I have t-mobile and use this device.
I was considering LG google nexus too but seeing this device is only 157 as unlocked, i decided to buy it.
Their tablet called "element" is also much cheaper than samsung or LG tablets
