Nintendo 3DS Nintendogs and Cats Question: Fetch?

I have been playing fetch over and over with my dog (shiba inu) and he cant seem to catch it, or bring it back to me.
I've been playing for over 2 weeks, and ive been playing with him (fetch) for about 112 hours out of 337
(After school and when I wake up and in class)
Why cant he seem to get the hang of it. :/

P.S I found it alot of easier to teach dogs how to fetch in the other nintendogs (for the regular nintendo DS). This nintendogs (for the Nintendogs 3DS) they learn tricks faster
 
To bring it back to you, just continuously tap the screen until is come back to you. Don't worry; some of my dogs can catch it but don't fetch it unless I tap the screen a lot (the older ones can bring it back automatically now!). But if you keep throwing a short distance then get longer, the dog SHOULD catch it after a while

Its because the dog is small; Bigger dogs catch the frisbee easier than smaller dogs (Such as shiba inus, chihuahuas, etc.) You can also go to the park and let your dog practice fetch there.
