Nokia e63 email ! Please help if your good with phones!?

hi, my dad has a new nokia e63 , i have attatched his email to it and everything but when he gets a new email he has to go into his inbox and check it (it doesnt alert him when he has new mail) It is really annoying as he wanted it to be able to know when he's got new mail, does anyone have this phone who can help?Or know where to look to check?
