Nokia Lumia 920 or Unlocked 920?

So, I really have my heart set on the Nokia Lumia 920 and have been looking at a lot of video reviews and reviews from different companies. When I looked up the price, I saw that it was being sold for $99 USD or $799 USD. The 799 Lumia was "unlocked" as to the other phone that wasn't. What is an "unlocked" Nokia Lumia and why is it worth so much more than the other phone?
