Thought I'd start a thread to discuss the Olympics as an ongoing thing.
It's not even officially started and it's already entertaining.

The women's football is underway and there's been some great goals already. It's doesn't quite look the same as men's football for some reason? More space it seems to me but that space is being well used.
And of course they put a South Korean flag up for the North korean team. Ooopsie!

I hate the corporate crap that surrounds the Games (but understand the need for the sponsorship money), however I absolutely ADORE the sport. Once every 4 years I get to see loads of sports that I love and that aren't shown on the tv very often (I don't have Sky etc). I'm planning on spending the next couple of weeks glued to my TV watching as much of it as possible (even the football - but probably not the synchronised swimming)!

It's unfortunate that the events I want to watch are never televised. Anyone know if there are streams online or anything?

Seconded!!!!!!

The only online streaming that I know of requires a television subscription that includes two NBC channels. (Yes, I live in the USA.) I have no television subscription of any kind, so I am blocked out. Argh!! and and and and and and

I'm north of you in Canukistan and the CBC only covers certain things. So no wrestling, boxing, tkd, powerlifting, javelin, shotput,

Aye, it's precisely because of the blackout of those events, and also judo, guns, and archery, that I stopped watching any of the Olympics several iterations ago.

Olympic coverage totally sucks.

I've complained endlessley to anyone that will listen regarding the poor coverage of olympic events i actually like. Thing's like archery, combat sports, riding events etc are almost never covered at all; worse still is when they start coverage of one of these events because there is a lull in coverage of other events only to switch it just as your getting into it. Hopefully the BBC will follow up on their promise of best coverage ever.

The BBC coverage should be pretty extensive. They'll have crews at every event so I don't see why they wouldn't put in the extra effort to stream it online.

hope the BBC have extensive coverage on interactive to cover the minor sports

I like how once every four years everyone suddenly loves gymnastics. Boxing was really well covered at the last one so hopefuly the wrestling will be broadcast in a couple weeks.

Everyone always loves (women's) gymnastics. It's just never on the teevee

Personally I prefer the men - those biceps when they do Iron Crosses are droolworthy!

I thought we'd at least have to wait until the beach volleyball started before this thread ended up in the gutter.
Frodo...go and watch dressage as punishment.

Consider looking at this online?

I like dressage - you should have said football or synchronised swimming!

iv always found something very strange about womans football but can never put my finger on it, I don't mean in a negative way it just for some reason feels very different to the male version than most female sports do to there male counter parts.

I watched the end of the GB game and actually enjoyed it a lot.

Dressage is more of a sport than synchro swimming. That said, it's not one of my favourite equestrian events.
