Now clearly you're an atheist, so obviously by doing these things you don't claim a religion.

I'm not really talking about the little things like saying bless you, I mean things like going to temples, reciting biblical passages, even prayer before bed. Any out of the ordinary or just that you think may be interesting.

Disclaimer:
I believe this is a very valid question. I still consider wearing crosses on occasions just because I like jewelery, and sometimes people have these types of habits that just become a part of their daily routine.
I didn't word that to the best of my abilities, but if you can manage to decipher it, congratulations!

Why do many atheists celebrate Christmas? I once asked a teenager what religion they were. She replied, "Atheist." I than asked, "Why do you celebrate Christmas?" She said, "Because."

They still don't continue to make sense in my mind.

No, I was never indoctrinated very well. I left my religion (islam) the second I found out others had opposing beliefs to my own (I wen't to a church school) and that they were mutually exclusive. Each with no more validity than the other. Thus I concluded religion was false. I must have been about 7. Sometimes I say "OMG", but that's actually considered blasphemy isn't it? so that's cool.

Christmas isn't even a Christian holiday, It was stolen from pagans, so was easter. It also has nothing to do with religion anymore.

If I go to Church with my Grandma (out of respect for my Grandma) I still cross myself and such upon entering. I still think that holy places deserve special treatment (be they churches, mosques, or synagogues) in that they are supposed to be safe places. Still cross myself for good luck out of habit and I wear cross jewelry, because I think it's pretty. Oh yeah, and Christmas. Definitely celebrate Christmas; seriously, what's better than getting together with friends and family and expressing your love for them with gifts.

Religious stuff? No... but as with us all, we carry forward pieces of our teaching and nurturing. In my case though I couldn't say what they were. That was a long time ago..

No, some times i say "god save us" but otherwise no.

I do not attend church or pray. I will read the bible but that si deliberate. I think if I am going to talk to believers I need to know what it is I am talking about.

I also read a lot more and varied religious and atheist stuff now so to have knowledge and be able to give good and well thought out answers to questions.

What are you talking about..do you even know the words coming out of your mouth. The tongue is a very evil thing.
There are a lot of dead people in dead churches all over this world.By dead I mean spiritually dead.
God knows who is playing him and who are true believers.

It is a valid question. Christian faith was central to my life at one time, and it didn't let go easily or all at once.

There's nothing that I would call a "habit," but old hymns do occasionally get stuck in my head and Bible verses often occur to me at odd times.

I do occasionally go to a church service, either with my evangelical Christian family or to a more liberal congregation on my own -- but again, not habitually. And I read the Bible through every couple of years, but that just gets weirder every time. I celebrate Christmas and Easter, but most of the spiritual significance is gone and it's mostly just tradition now.

no; i stopped doing those things before i started calling myself an atheist because they did nothing for me and i didn't find them important.

I have never been religious...

But I say things like oh god and jesus christ.

They have very different meanings when I say them, however...

I see them as things that have just been assimilated into the English language.

Just like all the stuff that came from paganism before Christianity was invented.

I have some habits left over, like avoiding saying 'oh my God' or swearing if I'm in a church or nearby cathedral. I also feel bad sometimes if I laugh at someone on here refering to God as a 'sky fairy' or whatever, but I don't worry that I'll be punished for it. It's just because of how drilled into me that sin = Hell when I was a theist.

When my atheist friend lost his nan, we went to our cathedral to light a candle for her. This wasn't because we believed in God and we were praying for her or whatever, but it was the only way he could do some sort of tribute for her, and as she was religious, we thought she'd appreciate it.

I also celebrate Christmas and Easter, but not it a religious way. I just do the whole giving gifts thing, not any kinda worship.

I am a scout leader and member, and a big part of scouting is religion, and at the end of meetings, we used to recite a prayer that I still do know by heart, and it sometimes randomly comes into my head. Other than that, I don;t really have any other theist habits left over.
