One piece Gol D. Roger?

Was Gol D. Roger like Luffy in term of Being a GOOD guy character, as most characters who speak of their personal encounter with Roger only pass good comments about him. (Any facts about his personalities would be nice)
 
I think they both have their own view on what is right and wrong and us being the spectators in their lives happen to think that "WOW that's pretty nice and noble of him he MUST be good"

defying common sense, they're still technically bad because they're pirates. And in their world that's against the law, but hey Luffy's made of rubber in the world of one piece.
 
Well from what we have heard most of the people who have met him. Most of them respected him and in some cases admired him, Enemy's and allys alike. He Always liked to things in grand scale says Silvers Rayleigh. Kind of like Luffy. Luffy is probably allot like Roger because many people that knew Roger and meets Luffy is reminded of him when they look at Luffy and says that they talk about the same things.
Examples: the Bartender in Louge town sees roger in Luffy when luffy sits on a bar stool.
Shanks says to Silvers Rayleigh that Luffy said the exact same things as Roger.
Silvers Rayleigh sees Roger in Luffy when Luffy says that he doesn't want to conquer anything just be the one with the most freedom in the world. like the Pirate King.
