whats up with organised religion? im confused.
are people allowed to follow their own path in faith? to have their own perceptions of a higher being? or must they follow a certain set of rules and regulatioins to be considered a "christian" or similar.

im just curious.
thankyou in advance =]
im agnostic by the way. (used to be catholic)
i go to a private christian school, and im having trouble understanding the concept of following a specific religion.

arent all the religion's similar in some way? worshipping a higher being. only people just percieve him/her differently.

what are you views??

Religion tells you what to do and how to do it.

Though I still disagree with the concept of a higher power, in my opinion, it seems better to believe in a god/goddess and to live one's life according to what one sees correct. Not following blindly what someone else sees.

You are allowed to follow anything you like... but if you follow anyone but Jesus, it will find you in a bad place in the end.

and Christianity is completely different to organised religion.

"Organized religion" merely means that you attend church services or participate in a faith community, somewhere, with other people.

You don't have to pick a religion that asks you to believe foolishness. Unitarian Universalism is one of the good ones.

But there is power in groups; both the ability to give and receive help and support from like-minded people; and the power to help make it a better world, where group efforts can be far more effective than solo individual efforts.

Sitting alone on a hill meditating is fine for YOU, but the world needs more than that. A compatible religion will help you become a better person, more connected to your community, and gives you options for helping others as well.

just read the questions and answers here on YA. that is why we need organized religion. Jesus wanted use to be one church, not 55,000 churches that all believe something different. it is a disgrace. people want to do things their way, not God's way. which is perfectly held in the Catholic church.

The deal is that the religious institution must make money. Everything else is secondary....

well, if you join a christian church (i am excluding the Catholic Church here for matters of reference) you should have at least one Degree and a nice car. They will look at that, believe me. You see, the churches today come down to fellowship. After the songs are sung and grape juice is passed out YOU and your bank account become of interest. But like most people, if you have these things then 10 to 1 you are in church just to find a spouse. Ah, such is organized religion.

in order to be a Christian, you have to believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God.

That's the blanket term. As the many denominations of Christianity attest, there's a lot of "own paths:
