ovulation prediction kits, lh surge?

Today i had a positive lh surge. Its my first day of testing, so dont know how long my levels have been high.

I know that ovulation should occur upto 36 hours after the surge, but was wondering if you can ovulate the same day as having a surge? Or do the hormone levels go back down before you ovulate?
