im doing a photography assignment of culture and have to think of something other that the different country of origins
 
It doesn't really. It is a pseudo-representation.

If you have to represent your culture, in photographs, I think that your instructor is driving at the idea that you don't want to take pictures of cliches, for example, in America ... don't drive through a poor neighborhood and take pictures of homeless people next to graffiti. That is a stereotype. Instead, take a picture of a small child petting a cat, in the same surroundings.
