P90X: Do I have to follow the nutrition guide if i'm underweight?

A lot of people have been saying without following the NG, you won't get accurate results. I want to focus on gaining weight, not losing. I really DON'T feel like following the guide because it's meant to be for overweight people. I'm underweight. What should I do? I was thinking I could just eat lots of protein a day with great amount of carbs. Is that a good idea? Thx...
 
Yes you should follow it because you are mistaken about its intent. Neither the nutritional guide nor the workout program portions of P90X are meant for overweight people. P90X is an extreme workout program for people who are already in good shape; it is to take them to the next level of fitness, not quick weight loss. As for the guide, it is designed to give your body the fuel it needs for such an intense workout program. If you really want to be successful with P90X, you should already been in decent shape or else the workouts will be difficult.
