Im on a Games Development Course and my current laptop is struggling to run Macromedia flash without lagging nevermind games. My mum bought me a new laptop as a surprise but i can take it back and change it if its still not good enough, although i can't actually use it til im sure.

I'm not too bothered about gaming as i use my desktop, although it would be nice, but i just need it to be able to run developing programs perfectly, is it good enough?
The man in the shop apparently said itll run most things perfectly, but my mate who builds computers said it wouldn't at all, any suggestions?
I have a budget too, i know i could do LOADS better but be realistic
