Parking in New York City?

I just relocated to New York City (uptown to be exact) and I had to bring my car with me because I moved from out of state. I have noticed that parking here is a complete nightmare. I live on a street where you have to move your car either Monday and Thursday or Tuesday and Friday from 8am-9:30am or 11am-1pm and this is becoming a inconvienent because I have to work during those times. I can't sell my car because I still owe a lot on it and eventually I do want to move more south so I will need the car. Can anyone give me some suggestions on either storing my car or parking it somewhere thats reasonable?
