Are there documents (e.g., early Christian writings) that would prove that Matt16:18 should be interpreted in the way that Peter was the rock upon which Christ built his Church? Interpretations pointing to Jesus himself or to the faith of Peter as the foundation seem to have been developed only after the reformation.
I asked similar questions looking for any early Church father who say that Peter was not the rock foundation in Matt 16:18 and nobody could give me anything.

Does this mean that the Catholics are right?

You did not answer me with the word of God. You answered me with your interpretation of the word of God. An interpretation that is not shared by the early Christians.
