Picking up the signs?

The main point to this question is how does one develop "gaydar". I am totally unable to tell who is gay and who is straight, with the exception being the overly obvious(and even then I can be surprised to find I am wrong.). I have a hypothesis that my inability to tell someones sexuality is directly related to my inability to tell when someone is interested in me. As I cannot pick up on those signs either. I really just don't know what to look for in order to convincingly create the assumption that someone is attracted to me, or when the person is attracted to the same sex. Any suggestions on how I could open up and develop this ability?

The two are related. Both require picking up on subtle body language. You'll have to train yourself to be more observant of the way others speak, stand, gesture, etc.

Gaydar isn't really anything special. It's just being able to pick up on these subtleties. To me the best way to develop it is to be around other gays. Then you'll begin to notice things. The most significant one to me is eye contact. Gays hold eye contact just a little longer than straight guys.

Maybe someone should write a book on this - or maybe someone already has. It'd be good for people just coming out.
