This has happened a few times.
I don't normally remember my dreams, but these I remember all too well, and it was frightening when I woke up.

I dreamt:
- pitch black nothingness
- I couldn't feel anything
- I couldn't see anything (obviously)
- I couldn't smell anything
- I couldn't hear anything
And the weirdes part of all of it, was the fact that I was perfectly calm... err no emotion what so ever would be a better way to describe it.

I also stopped breathing. I'm not exactly sure how long, but from the time my mom noticed it and tried to wake me up it was almost a minute.

Was I dead/dying?
I always thought they said that when you die, you see a bright light which signifies heaven... So did pitch blackness mean I was going to hell?

I've had these types of 'dreams/nightmares' before...
What do you think it means?

I also forgot to mention that on the days this usually happens, I'm unusually tired. Like REALLY tired. Almost like a took a handful of Xanax or something (which I didn't)

To dream that darkness comes upon you signifies failure in some work that you are attempting. Darkness is synonymous with ignorance, the unconscious, evil, death, and fear of the unknown. If the sun breaks through the darkness, then you will overcome your failures. If you feel safe in the dark, then it suggests that you like not knowing about certain things. As some might say, ignorance is bliss.

To dream that you are lost in the darkness denotes feelings of desperation, depression, or insecurity.

To dream that you are groping around in the darkness symbolizes that you have insufficient information to make a clear decision. Do your research and do not rush into making choices.

It may also mean that you are very tired and you feel like so exauhsted that you can't breathe. Like you cannot see where you are going in life, and feel like it is just darkness. (That is a guess, but the rest is from the source below)
