So. We have a spayed, female, purebred Pom who will be 1 year old on 12/27 (Happy Birthday to her). When she went through her "puppy uglies" back in the summer, her coat was pretty flat (think papillion) because all of the undercoat was out of it.
Now, as it's getting colder and colder, her undercoat is continuing to come in, but it's happening in kind of an odd way - her back end is the typical poof-ball you'd expect a pom to be, but on her front end, she almost looks like a little lion from where a lot of the longer top coat fur isn't falling out and is continuing to grow.
I do usually pet her more on her back & sides where the coat looks normal, so maybe that has something to do with it... Don't really know.
Also, she's never been shaved or had any sort of haircut except between her pads & a sanitary clip.
My question is, do you think that the long coat will continue to be shed out & the pattern continue or does she just have an odd-ball coat?
I know coat development can take 2+ years in some lines, but are these the exception or the rule?
