I have a 2000 Pontiac Bonneville SLE with 52000 miles on it. Just recently it has been shifting fairly late almost into the red zone on the RPM dial. This usually happens going from a stop, shifting into first gear. I have a feeling that this is not good for the car. Does anybody know what might be wrong and what can i do to fix it?

First things first, Check the trans fluid when it is hot, Then look at the kick down linkage it is most likely seized or the return spring is off. This will certainly cause a later shifting

Is the fluid level ok? Have you had a service done to the trans yet? How is the fluid condition? Red like kool-aid is ok If it looks like ice tea you should get it serviced. If the fluid is dark my advice is to start with a transmission flush .
