At most schools with them, they are actually pretty easy to avoid. I went my entire first year without setting foot in one, and we have a pretty thriving Greek life. They are what they are, and it's okay. I know some pretty awesome people who are in fraternities and sororities--we poke fun at each other. There's a lot of good to be said for a diverse group of friends.
