A few days ago, we had a pipe start to leak in our basement, so while we getting it fixed we had placed an ice cream bucket onto the pipe to catch the dripping. Earlier today, my sister had discovered that a mouse was dead in the bucket. The bucket is at least 8 feet off the ground. The mouse in the bucket was a grey color with a white under-belly. Can't really tell how long/big it was, because it was curled up into a ball when we found it. But guessing, with the tail, maybe the length of a pen?
Anyway, we checked around for tracks, feces, any clues we could find, but we couldn't find anything to hint that a mouse was present. We also have two cats and a dog, who usually go crazy when theres birds/rabbits/squirrels just running around our yard. But they haven't hinted at any mice being around either. We're planning to check over again throughout the day and put out traps/bait anyway.
But first question; what kind of mouse would this be? A grey house mouse? And, is it normal for there just to be one by itself? Second question, what is the best bait to use for mouse traps?
