Press any key to boot from cd or dvd..not working..?

Ok so I have a new computer but its one my friend's dad put together so its no from any manufacturer and it has an AMI Bios and I finally was able to figure out how to get it to boot to the cd and when "Press any key to boot from cd or dvd" shows up i press keys but i just continues to boot to the hard drive.. anyone know why?? and I noticed when i press a key to boot it the num lock light goes on and off every time i press a button when it shows up

Well, at first I would say try a different keyboard, and check your connections. If you are using usb, do you have Legacy support enabled in your BIOS? If it isn't your keyboard, it might be that you have nothing in your cd tray. I don't think I can help you farther then that. But it sounds more like a keyboard issue then anything else.
 
the cd you are booting off of is an original or copy? sometimes copying cds does not save over the boot sector files needed to boot off a cd. the keyboard could be a problem but i highly doubt that as in the bootstrap the keyboard is checked. it would have halted sooner if the keyboard was in error. i would suspect your have not gotten the BIOS settings just right yet. in the bios select ONLY to boot of off cd, even if you have to tell it 3 times. double check your bios settings. make sure you save ( F10 ) before exiting bios. and make sure your BIOS battery is up to snuff so it has the power to save these settings.
