Price difference in 'antique' book..need some help?

I'm currently looking up the book, "The Little World of Laos" by Oden Meeker as a christmas gift for a friend. I first saw the book at the Complete Traveller Antiquarian Bookstore in NYC and it called out my friends name, with a bright light shining around it saying "Buy me". It's a first edition but it goes for $49.95. I have a christmas budget that I don't want to go over but I do not have a problem spending a little extra to get that perfect gift (it would make me go over my budget probably by $50 or $70). However, I searched on Amazon and found the book for cheaper, WAY cheaper. Thing that worries me is I don't know if these books are first editions or considered 'antiques'. I would really like to get an old, antiques, first edition, or original version of this book because I think it'll add more personality and meaning to the gift (and maybe I can brag that I was running around forever looking for this special, old book hehe).

My question is, is it the first edition that would make the book be considered an antique? And which one should I go for (I'll provide links at the bottom)? Should I just spend the money? Or go for the cheaper one?
