The robot Lumber9 moves along the number line. Lumber9 starts at 0, takes 1 step forward (to 1) then 2 steps backward (to -1) then 3 steps backward, and so on, moving alternately forward and backwards, one step each time. At what number is Lumber 9 after taking 2011 steps?

How did you come to your answer? Many thaaanks xx
 
The answer is actually 4021. at number 1 it is one term, at 2 it is at 3 terms at 3 it is at 5 terms.... every term will be double the original number minus 1 so therefor 2011*2=4022, 4022-1= 4021.
 
odd numbers are positive and even numbers are negative

1step=1 --> 2 steps= -1 --> 3steps= 2 --> 4 steps= -2

Or the first ODD number is 1 and the first EVEN number is -1

Since there are 1006 Odd numbers and 1005 even numbers, then the answer is 1006
1006= odd (positive) 1105= even (negative)
