Problem with recieving texts with Telus blackberry tour?

I just bought a new blackberry from best buy and everything works great except i can't recieve any texts from anyone EXCEPT when i text myself. Does anyone know what's wrong? Would itbe a phone defect or a problem with telus or what? Thank you
 
The first thing you should always try is a power cycle, this means turning your phone off and removing the battery for 2 minutes. Once the two minutes is up, put the battery back and text a friend who may answer right away. If this doesn't work, contact your service provider because you may not have that feature on your account or there may be other troubleshooting steps you can try with a representative.
 
Give TELUS a call and have the tech rep check your account settings. It's usually a pretty simple problem.
