problems connecting to internet on psp using t-mobile hotspot?

I have a 3.75 version psp and I'm having problems setting up the network. I have an account with t-mobile hotspot and tried to use it to get on the internet, but the psp still can't detect the access point. I changed the SSID to t-mobile, I have the WLAN switch turned on and I put in the right password/username. Are there only certain places you can use t-mobile hotspot and you can't use it in your home? What else do I need to do?
