I have a 1996 Ford Thunderbird with a 4.6L SOHC V8 and an AOD 4 speed. I recently lost second gear on my car and as I was driving to my uncles shop where I was gonna replace it, the transmission totally went dead and the car red lined and then my motor seized. The car shut off and would not start back up so I had to get it towed. So I'm out a motor and a transmission. I have been looking around for re-manufactured motor and transmissions and someone gave me a total of almost 6000 just for the parts.. That's worth way more than the car itself! I really don't want to get rid of my car due to all the suspension, body, interior, and other work I've done to the car. I was also looking at a 4.6 DOHC motor from either a Cobra or a Lincoln Mark-VIII. But I think the conversion would be too complicated and costly. Would it be better getting a rebuild motor and transmission or spending half the price and getting a used junkyard one? Any ideas? I'm in the New York New Jersey area. Thanks.
