I know Dachshunds usually whine, and she's no exception. I've had her for almost two years and I'm accustomed to what I call "normal" whining. This past Wednesday I took her to the vet for a check-up, as I don't know her medical history (we adopted her from a breeder when she was about six weeks old, and I'm not sure what shots she's had, if any). He clipped her nails and gave her a shot in her front paw.
This Friday night I left to go to my mom's house, and left the dog at my dad's. From the moment I left, she started whining as if she were in pain. My grandma called me from my dad's to tell me she wasn't sleeping at night, and kept whining for hours at a time, sometimes yelping and barking in pain. Today I came home to see for myself. It's constant, and although sometimes it's her normal "I'm bored, cuddle me" whine it is mostly a high-pitched pained sound.
I haven't changed her food other than cutting the portions to 1/3 a cup of it spread throughout the day, as the vet told us to do on Wednesday. The vet told us she was healthy, and that her spine was in good shape. We walk her twice a day, sometimes more, as that's the only way she'll go to the bathroom outside.
She seems healthy, and when we take her outside for walks, she doesn't complain. But indoors she's whiny and freaks out like she's in pain. She's also sneezing and gagging, and she has a habit of throwing up occasionally (the vomiting has been happening since we got her, but it only happens every six months or so). I've considered worms.
Just in case this might have anything to do with it, she's not fixed yet. She had her last period about two months ago and we keep her on a chain in a fenced yard when she's left alone outside, so we know she's not pregnant.
Sorry if this sounds like too much detail, but I'm trying to make sure there's as much information as possible. =) I can't take her to the vet until tomorrow, seeing as it was Labor Day today and the place is closed. Thanks for anyone who can help me!
