proper nutrition while working out?

I want to get into shape and I need to know what is good to eat and what is not....i always hear chicken and tuna is good but I want to know what else...as in should i eat 4 or 5 times a day or fewer then that?....drink water before my work out? in between my work out or after? please let me know as much information you know about this...i will pick the best answer
