Pro's and Con's of Satellite TV vs Cable?

I'm thinking of switching to satellite tv due to the fact that my cable provider ( delta cable) has terrible choices when it comes to programming. I was curious to know if there are any drawbacks to satellite tv. ( like if the weather is cloudy do you get bad reception?)
 
To be honest the only time mine went off was with a
windy driving rain, and as soon as the driving would end picture would be back.
 
ive only had one problem with my satellite dish, a few months back it snowed pretty hard and then my dish was filled with snow and then it went back the next morning when it melted off. other than that, i havent had any problems.
