Proxy Settings? Or what?

I cannot access any webpages. I recently let my computer install the vista updates, and after that it has not worked. I tried system restore. I tried resetting the modem, I tried anti virus software on safemode, I tried startup repair, I tried using different users. It will not work. One account would work before, out of three. The other two have been saying "proxy settings error" for month(s). The account that used to work either gives me a 404 error, or the cable company's system activation page. But, I had this problem before, and didn't have to call mediacom to fix it. Do you think mediacom would have a solution, or what else could be wrong? The diagnose either says I'm "being directed to another page", or "there is a problem that cannot be fixed automatically" and wants me to call my cable company. I'd call the cable company if I had the account number. It's my dad's account, computer, etc. Is there anything I can try to do to fix it on my own? Also, the phone and TV work fine, and they're from mediacom, too. Any suggestions?
